Ottawa families can buy IRCC-compliant super visa insurance online now, from about $1,577 a year for a 55-year-old parent and $4,000 at 75 with stable conditions covered (lowest of eight insurers compared in October 2026). SuperVisaDirect is operated by Super Visa Direct Insurance Services, an Ottawa-based agency licensed by FSRA; we work online and by phone, with no walk-in office.
Who in Ottawa is buying super visa insurance?
Ottawa’s 1,017,449 residents were 23.4 percent immigrants in the 2021 Census, with South Asian residents at 5.8 percent, Arab 5.8 percent, Chinese 4.6 percent and Filipino 1.4 percent (Statistics Canada Census Profile, via Wikipedia). The main birthplaces include China, India, Lebanon, Pakistan, Iran and the Philippines.
Ottawa’s super visa demand is smaller than Toronto’s and more varied: Indian and Pakistani parents from the tech and public-service workforce, Chinese parents in Kanata and Barrhaven, and Lebanese and Iranian parents whose files take longer. Iran processing ran 265 days in September 2026 against 70 for India, so the policy start date must be movable. Parents apply from abroad and see a panel physician in their own country for the immigration medical, so no Ottawa clinic is involved.
How does buying work in Ottawa?
Most families buy online in about ten minutes: enter the parent’s date of birth, planned entry date and health answers, compare live prices, pay annually or by deposit and instalments, and download a certificate naming the underwriter. If you would rather talk it through, request a callback and a licensed advisor runs the same comparison with you.
| Step | What you do | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Enter age, entry date, health answers online | Live prices from available insurers |
| 2 | Choose plan and deductible | Policy summary naming the underwriter |
| 3 | Pay in full or 2-month deposit plus fee | Certificate PDF by email |
| 4 | Upload to the IRCC application | Proof of insurance on file (quotes not accepted) |
| 5 | Forward to your parent | Shown to CBSA at entry |
The IRCC rules require at least $100,000 per applicant for health care, hospitalisation and repatriation, valid one year from entry, from a Canadian insurer or a foreign insurer on OSFI’s register. There is no IRCC-approved list, and no Indian, Pakistani, Chinese or Lebanese domestic insurer qualifies. Full rules are on our super visa insurance guide.
Which languages does SuperVisaDirect support?
English now, with Punjabi, Hindi, Urdu and Tagalog pages planned. A family member can translate during a phone walkthrough of the health questions, and every insurer we list runs a multilingual 24-hour assistance line for the parent once in Canada.
What does an Ottawa hospital charge an uninsured parent?
Queensway Carleton Hospital publishes the clearest schedule in Ontario, effective 1 April 2026: non-residents pay $4,005 a day for an acute ward bed, $15,642 a day in intensive care and $1,242 per emergency visit, before physician fees. The Ottawa Hospital and Montfort set their own rates on the same scale.
| Item | Uninsured Canadian resident ($) | Non-resident of Canada ($) |
|---|---|---|
| Acute ward bed, per day | 1,335 | 4,005 |
| Intensive care, per day | 5,214 | 15,642 |
| Emergency visit | 414 | 1,242 |
Ontario removed the OHIP waiting period in 2025, but that helps only residents; a super visa parent is a visitor and never qualifies. A week in intensive care at QCH rates passes $100,000, which is exactly why IRCC sets that floor and why the health questions must be answered exactly; see pre-existing conditions.
What will it cost an Ottawa family?
Annual premium, $100,000 coverage, $0 deductible, stable pre-existing covered, rates seen Oct 2026 — verify at quote time.
| Parent’s age | Lowest of 8 insurers ($/yr) | Highest ($/yr) |
|---|---|---|
| 55 | 1,577 | 2,373 |
| 65 | 2,051 | 4,201 |
| 75 | 4,000 | 9,910 |

Questions people ask
Can I visit an office in Ottawa to buy super visa insurance?
No. SuperVisaDirect is operated by Super Visa Direct Insurance Services, an Ottawa-based agency licensed by FSRA. We work online and by phone; there is no walk-in office. Most families buy online in ten minutes, or request a callback and a licensed advisor walks through the plan card with you.
Which insurers can Ottawa families choose from?
The plan sold on SuperVisaDirect is TuGo's Visitors to Canada plan, underwritten by iA Financial Group, a Canadian life insurer, which is what IRCC requires. Our guides compare it against the other Canadian plans, from Secure Travel (iA), Manulife (21st Century, CoverMe), GMS, Destination (Zurich Canadian Branch), Allianz (CUMIS) and Travelance (Old Republic), so you can check it against the market; those plans are not sold here.
My parents are in Gatineau some of the time. Does Quebec matter?
The host's residence decides. SuperVisaDirect serves Ontario residents, and Quebec hosts are not served. If you live in Ottawa and your parents visit family across the river, their policy still covers them anywhere in Canada. Secure Travel and GMS are not sold to Quebec residents, but that restriction is on the buyer, not the parent's travel.
What does an Ottawa hospital charge a visitor without insurance?
Queensway Carleton Hospital's April 2026 schedule bills non-residents $4,005 a day for an acute ward bed, $15,642 a day in intensive care and $1,242 per emergency visit, before physician fees. The Ottawa Hospital and Montfort set their own rates on the same scale. A super visa policy pays the hospital directly where the insurer arranges it.
