Visitors to Canada insurance costs about $72 a month at age 25, $111 at 55, $133 at 65 and $240 at 75 for $100,000 of coverage without pre-existing conditions, according to PolicyAdvisor’s table last updated 12 October 2026. Stable pre-existing cover adds 10 to 40%. Plans are priced per day, so a two-week visit costs roughly half the monthly figure, and a six-month visit about six times it. These are market averages; the quoter gives the exact price for a named carrier.
Do not use super visa prices to budget a short visit. Super visa policies must run 365 days, so their premiums are annual. A visitor plan covers the days of the trip only.
What does visitor insurance cost by age?
Age is the largest single driver. The day rate roughly doubles between 55 and 75, and doubles again between 75 and 85, because hospital admissions rise steeply with age. Below 55 most carriers ask no medical questions and the price is flat and low.

What does visitor insurance cost by trip length?
Multiply the day rate by the number of days. There is no fixed minimum term at most carriers, so a 10-day policy costs 10 days of premium. The only exception is instalment plans, which require 90 to 365 days depending on the carrier; see monthly payments.

| 183 days (6 months) | about $620 | about $675 | about $812 | about $1,464 |
PolicyAdvisor’s cost guide gives broader ranges by duration: $50 to $150 for 1 to 14 days, $150 to $300 for 15 to 30 days and $300 to $600 for 31 days or more. Those ranges mix ages, so use the age table for budgeting. Worked examples are on the 2-month trip and 6-month trip pages.
How does the coverage amount change the price?
Modestly, compared with age. Most claims are small, so the layer between $100,000 and $150,000 is priced cheaply. For a parent over 60, the extra for $150,000 is usually worth paying; see coverage amounts.

How much does a deductible save?
Between 5 and 45%, depending on the amount and carrier. A $500 deductible is the usual compromise: about 15% off at Manulife, 21st Century and Travelance. The deductibles page compares every option.
| Deductible | Manulife CoverMe (Manufacturers Life) | 21st Century (Manulife) | Travelance (Old Republic Insurance Company of Canada) |
|---|---|---|---|
| $100 | 5% | 5% | Not offered |
| $250 | 10% | 10% | 10% |
| $500 | 15% | 15% | 15% |
| $1,000 | 20% | 20% | 30% to age 59; 20% from 60 |
| $5,000 | 35% | 35% | 30% |
| $10,000 | 40% | 40% | 45% |
What else drives the price?
Four things after age, days and coverage: pre-existing cover, deductible, companions and timing. Pre-existing cover adds 10 to 40%. Travelling companions earn 5% each at 21st Century. Buying after arrival does not change the price but adds a waiting period.
| Factor | Effect on premium | Where it matters most |
|---|---|---|
| Age on the effective date | Largest driver; roughly doubles 55 to 75 | Parents and grandparents |
| Number of days | Linear; priced per day | Short trips are cheap |
| Coverage amount | Small step from $100,000 to $150,000 | Visitors over 60 |
| Stable pre-existing cover | +10 to 40% | Anyone on daily medication |
| Deductible | -5% to -45% | Families able to absorb $500 to $1,000 |
| Companion or family rate | -5% per companion (21st Century); family rate 2× eldest (Travelance) | Couples and grandchildren |
| Medical questionnaire answers | Sets the rate band at 55 or 60 and over | Carriers with tiered pricing |
How does this compare with super visa insurance?
The day rate is similar; the term is not. A 65-year-old pays $2,051 to $4,201 a year for a $100,000 super visa policy with stable pre-existing cover, per the super visa cost tables. The same person on a visitor visa for two months pays roughly $270 to $340. Our super visa cost page has the full annual grid.
If the parent will stay six months and return next year, the two routes converge. Six months of visitor cover for a 65-year-old is about $800 to $1,000; a super visa year is about $2,000 and buys a ten-year visa with five-year entries. The decision guide sets out when to switch.

Questions people ask
How much is visitor insurance for Canada per day?
Carriers price per day, and the day rate rises with age and coverage amount. Dividing PolicyAdvisor's monthly figures by 30 gives roughly $2.40 a day at age 25, $3.70 at 55, $4.45 at 65 and $8.00 at 75 for $100,000 without pre-existing conditions. These are derived averages; the quoter gives the exact day rate for a specific carrier and deductible.
How much does visitor insurance cost for a parent aged 65?
About $133 a month for $100,000 without pre-existing cover, or about $169 a month with stable pre-existing conditions covered, per PolicyAdvisor's table last updated 12 October 2026. For a two-month visit, budget roughly $270 to $340. A $500 deductible reduces the premium by about 15% at Manulife and 21st Century.
Why is visitor insurance cheaper than super visa insurance?
Same product, shorter term. Super visa insurance must run 365 days with $100,000 of cover, so the annual premium for a 65-year-old is $2,051 to $4,201 depending on the carrier. A visitor plan for the same person covers only the days of the trip, so a six-week stay costs a fraction. The day rate is similar; the number of days is not.
Does the coverage amount change the price much?
Less than age does. PolicyAdvisor's ranges for a 60-to-79-year-old are $150 to $250 a month at $50,000, $200 to $300 at $100,000 and $225 to $350 at $150,000. The step from $100,000 to $150,000 is smaller than the step from $50,000 to $100,000 because the top layer is rarely claimed.
How much extra is pre-existing condition coverage?
PolicyAdvisor puts the uplift at 10 to 40%. At age 55 the difference is $111 against $130 a month; at 65 it is $133 against $169; at 75 it is $240 against $329. For a parent on blood pressure or diabetes medication the uplift buys the only part of the policy they are likely to claim on.
Can I get a quote without giving medical details?
Yes for an indicative price, because the questionnaire only applies above a carrier's threshold age, usually 55 or 60. The final premium at those ages depends on the answers. The SuperVisaDirect quoter shows the carriers side by side for the parent's age, dates and coverage amount, and confirms the medical questions before purchase.
