Secure Travel’s Enhanced plan was the lowest of the eight insurers we compared in October 2026 for a parent with stable pre-existing conditions: about $1,577 a year at 55, $2,051 at 65 and $4,000 at 75 at $100,000 coverage. It qualifies for the super visa, is underwritten by iA Financial Group, insures to age 90 and needs only 90 days’ stability to age 69. It is not sold in Quebec.
Who is Secure Travel, and who underwrites the policy?
Secure Travel is a brand of RIMI Insurance Solutions Inc., a Toronto managing general agent. The policy is underwritten by iA Financial Group, the same Canadian insurer behind TuGo, and claims are administered by MSH Assistance with 24/7 support and direct billing where possible.
For IRCC the insurer is iA, not RIMI and not MSH. The IRCC document rules require the certificate to name the underwriter; check that it does before uploading. MSH also sells its own Discover Canada plan, reviewed separately by PolicyAdvisor, so do not confuse the two.
SuperVisaDirect does not sell this plan. It is reviewed here for comparison; the plan sold on SuperVisaDirect is TuGo’s Visitors to Canada plan, underwritten by iA Financial Group, bought in three steps on the super visa page. The 2026 comparison shows both side by side.
Which Secure Travel plan do super visa parents need?
Both Standard and Enhanced qualify at $100,000 for a year, and both can be bought with or without pre-existing condition cover. Enhanced raises the drug, dental and repatriation limits. Either plan allows up to $1,000,000 in coverage and a 365-day term.
| Feature | Standard | Enhanced |
|---|---|---|
| Maximum sum insured ($ CAD) | $1,000,000 | $1,000,000 |
| Coverage period | Up to 365 days | Up to 365 days |
| Prescription drugs (30 days) | $500 | $1,000 |
| Emergency dental, injury | $1,000 | $3,000 |
| Emergency dental, pain | $300 | $500 |
| Repatriation of remains | $5,000 | $10,000 |
| AD&D | $50,000 | $50,000 |
| Flight accident | $50,000 | $100,000 |
| Deductible options ($ CAD) | $0 to $3,000 | $0 to $3,000 |
Source: PolicyAdvisor. Deductibles are $0, $100, $250, $500, $1,000 and $3,000; the $3,000 maximum is lower than the $10,000 offered elsewhere.
What are the age and stability rules?
The applicant must be under 90 and at least 15 days old on the effective date. Pre-existing conditions are covered to age 84 when stable for 90 days (to 69) or 180 days (70 to 84). PolicyAdvisor does not describe a medical questionnaire, so eligibility rests on the stability definition.
| Age on effective date | Stability period (days) | Pre-existing cover available |
|---|---|---|
| Up to 69 | 90 | Yes |
| 70 to 84 | 180 | Yes |
| 85 to 89 | — | No (new emergencies only) |
| 90 and over | — | Not eligible |
The 90-day rule to age 69 is the shortest standard period among the carriers we track. HelloSafe notes an 8-day waiting period for medical expenses when the policy is bought more than 30 days after arrival, so buy before the parent lands. Details in our pre-existing conditions guide.
What does Secure Travel cost?
With stable pre-existing conditions covered, Secure Travel was the lowest of the eight carriers compared in October 2026 at every age from 55 to 75. Without pre-existing cover, prices fall a further 25 to 35 percent.

How does the Secure Travel monthly plan work?
On the effective date you pay two months’ premium plus a $120 non-refundable policy fee, and the balance is split into 10 equal instalments. Each payment is one-twelfth of the annual premium. The plan requires $100,000 of coverage for 365 days.
| Monthly plan term | Detail |
|---|---|
| Deposit | 2 months’ premium |
| Policy fee | $120, non-refundable |
| Instalments | 10 equal monthly payments after the deposit |
| Minimum coverage | $100,000 |
| Minimum term | 365 days |
Source: PolicyAdvisor monthly plans. The $120 fee is the highest of the four monthly carriers, against $50 at 21st Century and $10 at Destination, but the lower base premium usually outweighs it. A missed instalment lapses cover. See monthly plans.
What are the refund and cancellation rules?
A visa refusal earns a full refund less an administration fee when you send the IRCC letter. After the effective date, refunds depend on timing and claims; early return with no claims is refunded pro-rata less the fee. PolicyAdvisor does not publish the fee amount, so confirm it on the certificate.
| Situation | Refund |
|---|---|
| Visa refused, IRCC letter supplied | Full, less administration fee |
| Cancel before effective date | Available, contact customer service |
| Return home early, no claims | Pro-rata, less administration fee |
| Claim made or pending | None |
| Monthly policy fee ($120) | Never refunded |
What are the side-trip, repatriation and coverage-area rules?
Expenses outside Canada are generally excluded, with exceptions for emergencies en route to or from Canada and during side trips. Repatriation of remains is capped at $5,000 on Standard and $10,000 on Enhanced. The plan is not sold in Quebec.
| Rule | Term |
|---|---|
| Side trips | Emergency expenses covered en route and on side trips; home country excluded |
| Repatriation of remains | $5,000 Standard / $10,000 Enhanced |
| Provinces not served | Quebec |
| Assistance | MSH Assistance, 24/7, direct billing where possible |
What do reviews say about claims?
Secure Travel has no meaningful independent review footprint we could verify: HelloSafe shows only its own site rating, and PolicyAdvisor’s 5/5 is the reviewer’s score, not customers’. Claims experience therefore rests on MSH Assistance, which handles multiple visitor brands and requires a call within 24 hours and proof of claim within 90 days, or 20 percent of the bill falls on you.
Who is Secure Travel best for, and what should you watch for?
It is the value pick for Ontario hosts whose parent is 55 to 75 with stable conditions, and the only mainstream option to age 89 for new-emergency cover. It is a poor fit for Quebec hosts, for deductible-maximisers and for anyone who wants a long public claims record.
| Best for | Watch out for |
|---|---|
| Parents 55 to 75 with stable conditions (lowest of 8 carriers, Oct 2026) | Not sold in Quebec |
| Parents 85 to 89 (new emergencies only) | No pre-existing cover from 85 |
| Monthly payers who can absorb the $120 fee | Highest monthly policy fee of the four |
| Families wanting $1,000,000 limits for the same price | $3,000 maximum deductible; thin public reviews |
Secure Travel is not sold on SuperVisaDirect; see how it sits against the TuGo plan we sell in the 2026 comparison, or compare TuGo on the same iA paper and Destination for the lowest monthly plan fee.
Questions people ask
Who underwrites Secure Travel super visa insurance?
iA Financial Group (Industrial Alliance Insurance and Financial Services Inc.), a Canadian life insurer, underwrites the plan. RIMI Insurance Solutions Inc. of Toronto designs and distributes it under the Secure Travel brand, and MSH Assistance administers claims. The certificate must show iA as the insurer; RIMI and MSH are not insurers for IRCC purposes.
What is the maximum age for Secure Travel super visa insurance?
Applicants must be under 90 on the effective date. Pre-existing condition coverage is available to age 84; from 85 to 89 the plan covers new emergencies only. The stability period is 90 days to age 69 and 180 days from 70 to 84, which is shorter than most competitors under 70.
How much is Secure Travel super visa insurance per month?
PolicyAdvisor's October 2026 table shows about $131 a month at 55, $171 at 65 and $333 at 75 with stable pre-existing conditions, at $100,000 coverage. The plan collects two months' premium plus a $120 policy fee up front, then 10 equal instalments. Each payment is one-twelfth of the annual premium.
Does Secure Travel refund the premium if the super visa is refused?
Yes, less an administration fee, when you send the IRCC refusal letter. Refunds after the effective date depend on timing and claims: a parent who returns home early with no claims gets the unused portion less the fee. No refund is paid once a claim has been made or is pending.
Is Secure Travel available in Quebec?
No. The plan is not sold to hosts in Quebec, which also matches SuperVisaDirect's own footprint: we serve Ontario residents now, with other provinces coming in 2028 and Quebec not served. If the host lives in Quebec, look at Manulife CoverMe or TuGo, both of which do not state a Quebec exclusion.
