Who in Windsor is buying super visa insurance?

Windsor’s largest visible minority group is Arab: 9.3 percent of its 229,660 residents in the 2021 Census, with South Asian at 7.0 percent, Black 5.8 percent, Chinese 3.0 percent and Filipino 1.5 percent, per Wikipedia citing the Statistics Canada Census Profile. The same page records 27.7 percent of residents as foreign-born at the 2016 Census.

Iraqi and Lebanese families along Wyandotte Street, Indian and Pakistani families near the university and the auto plants, and Chinese and Filipino hosts all apply. Nationally India supplied 56 percent of super visa applicants from 2011 to 2023, China 11 percent and Pakistan 5 percent; Windsor’s Middle Eastern share is well above that mix. Parents from Lebanon should read from Lebanon for the processing picture.

How does buying work from Windsor?

The purchase is online and takes about ten minutes: enter the parent’s date of birth, planned entry date and health answers, compare live prices, pay annually or by deposit and instalments, and download a certificate naming the underwriter. IRCC accepts the certificate, not a quote.

Step What you do What you get
1 Enter age, entry date, health answers Live prices from available insurers
2 Choose plan and deductible Policy summary naming the underwriter
3 Pay in full or 2-month deposit plus fee Certificate PDF by email
4 Upload to the IRCC application Proof of insurance on file
5 Forward to your parent Shown to CBSA at the bridge, tunnel or Pearson

The IRCC rules require at least $100,000 per applicant covering health care, hospitalisation and repatriation, valid one year from entry, from a Canadian insurer or a foreign insurer on OSFI’s register. Windsor parents often land at Detroit Metro and cross by road; the port of entry page covers what to carry, and the side trips page covers later trips to Michigan.

Which languages does SuperVisaDirect support?

English now, with Arabic under review given Windsor’s demand and Punjabi, Hindi, Urdu and Tagalog pages planned. A family member can translate during a phone walkthrough of the health questions, and every listed insurer runs a multilingual 24-hour assistance line for the parent once in Canada.

What does a Windsor hospital charge an uninsured parent?

Windsor Regional Hospital refers non-residents to its finance department for a complete list of rates and advises non-Canadian residents to check their private insurance before visiting; it publishes no schedule. Comparable 2026 schedules charge $3,750 a day for a ward at Niagara Health, effective 1 July 2026, and $4,005 at Queensway Carleton, effective 1 April 2026.

Item Niagara Health, Jul 2026 ($) Queensway Carleton, Apr 2026 ($)
Ward bed, per day 3,750 4,005
Intensive care, per day 4,500 15,642
Emergency visit 850 1,242

Physician fees are extra at both. A parent taken to a Detroit hospital on a day trip faces US rates several times higher, which is why the side-trip clause and the $100,000 minimum both matter; see pre-existing conditions for the questionnaire rules that decide whether a claim is paid at all.

What will it cost a Windsor family?

Annual premium, $100,000 coverage, $0 deductible, stable pre-existing covered, rates seen Oct 2026 — verify at quote time.

Parent’s age Lowest of 8 insurers ($/yr) Highest ($/yr)
55 1,577 2,373
65 2,051 4,201
75 4,000 9,910

Questions people ask

Can my parents enter at the Ambassador Bridge or the tunnel with a super visa?

Yes, a super visa is a multiple-entry visa valid at any port of entry, and many Windsor families collect parents from Detroit Metro. The border officer can ask for the insurance certificate at the bridge exactly as at Pearson, so the parent should carry a printed copy showing a full year of cover from that entry date.

Does super visa insurance cover a day trip to Detroit?

Usually, as a side trip, if the parent spends most of the policy period in Canada; Allianz requires the majority of the coverage period in Canada and TuGo covers worldwide trips that start after entering Canada. US hospital bills run far higher than Canadian ones, so the $100,000 limit is used faster; check the side-trip clause before crossing.

What does Windsor Regional Hospital charge a parent without insurance?

Windsor Regional refers non-residents to its finance department for rates and does not publish a schedule online. Comparable 2026 Ontario schedules charge $3,750 a day for a ward at Niagara Health and $4,005 at Queensway Carleton, $4,500 to $15,642 a day in intensive care and $850 to $1,242 for an emergency visit, before physician fees.

Can my parents use an Iraqi or Lebanese insurer for the super visa?

No. IRCC accepts only a Canadian insurer or a foreign insurer authorised by OSFI, on OSFI's public register, issuing in the course of its business in Canada. No Iraqi, Lebanese, Indian or Pakistani domestic insurer is on that register. There is no IRCC-approved list; the OSFI register is the only test.
