Scarborough families can buy IRCC-compliant super visa insurance online now, from about $1,577 a year for a 55-year-old parent and $4,000 at 75 with stable conditions covered (lowest of eight insurers compared in October 2026). Scarborough is part of the City of Toronto, so the same Ontario-licensed plans apply, and Super Visa Direct Insurance Services serves it today.
Who in Scarborough is buying super visa insurance?
Scarborough’s 623,610 residents were 55.5 percent immigrants and 76.6 percent visible minorities in the 2021 Census, with South Asian residents at 27.7 percent, Chinese 17.3 percent, Black 11.3 percent and Filipino 8.8 percent per the City of Toronto Scarborough profile, built on Statistics Canada data. The top immigrant birthplaces are China (54,280), the Philippines (42,950), Sri Lanka (36,290), India (34,055) and Bangladesh (16,580).
Cantonese, Tamil, Mandarin, Tagalog and Bengali are the leading mother tongues, which sets Scarborough apart from Brampton’s Punjabi market. Chinese parents tend to be older and raise stability-period questions; Filipino and Bangladeshi parents are often under 65. Parents apply from abroad and see a panel physician in their own country for the immigration medical, so no Scarborough clinic is involved.
How does buying work from Scarborough?
The purchase is online and takes about ten minutes. Enter the parent’s date of birth, planned entry date and health answers, compare live prices, pay annually or by deposit and instalments, and download a certificate that names the underwriter. Upload it with the IRCC application; quotes are not accepted.
| Step | What you do | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Enter age, entry date, health answers | Live prices from available insurers |
| 2 | Choose plan and deductible | Policy summary naming the underwriter |
| 3 | Pay in full or 2-month deposit plus fee | Certificate PDF by email |
| 4 | Upload to the IRCC application | Proof of insurance on file |
| 5 | Forward to your parent | Shown to CBSA at Pearson |
The IRCC rules require at least $100,000 per applicant for health care, hospitalisation and repatriation, valid one year from entry, from a Canadian insurer or an OSFI-authorised foreign insurer. There is no IRCC-approved list, and no Chinese, Sri Lankan, Filipino or Indian domestic insurer qualifies. The full rules are on our super visa insurance guide.
Which languages does SuperVisaDirect support?
English now, with Punjabi, Hindi, Urdu and Tagalog pages planned; Chinese and Tamil are under review given Scarborough’s demand. A family member can translate during a phone walkthrough, and every insurer we list runs a multilingual 24-hour assistance line for the parent in Canada.
What does a Scarborough hospital charge an uninsured parent?
Scarborough Health Network does not publish a single visitor day rate. The closest published Toronto figures are at Toronto East Health Network: $3,100 a day for a ward bed, $4,500 a day for intensive care and $1,025 per emergency visit for out-of-country patients, with physician fees billed separately.
| Item | Toronto East Health Network, out-of-country ($) |
|---|---|
| Ward bed, per day | 3,100 |
| Intensive care, per day | 4,500 |
| Emergency visit incl. ER physician | 1,025 |
A ten-day admission with a few days in intensive care passes $40,000 before specialists. That is why IRCC sets a $100,000 floor and why a wrong answer on the health questions is the most expensive mistake a family can make; see pre-existing conditions.
What will it cost a Scarborough family?
Annual premium, $100,000 coverage, $0 deductible, stable pre-existing covered, rates seen Oct 2026 — verify at quote time.
| Parent’s age | Lowest of 8 insurers ($/yr) | Highest ($/yr) |

| 55 | 1,577 | 2,373 |
| 65 | 2,051 | 4,201 |

Questions people ask
Is Scarborough treated differently from Toronto for super visa insurance?
No. Scarborough has been part of the City of Toronto since 1998, so the host's address is Toronto, Ontario for IRCC and for the insurer. The same Ontario-licensed plans, prices and rules apply. The only local difference is which hospital your parent would reach first, usually Scarborough Health Network's General, Centenary or Birchmount sites.
My parents are in their 70s and from China. Can they still get coverage?
Yes. TuGo Comprehensive has no maximum age, Secure Travel covers to 89, and 21st Century and Manulife run to 85. Stability periods lengthen with age: 180 days at 70 to 79 with most carriers, 365 days at 86 and over with TuGo. Chinese domestic insurers do not qualify; the policy must come from a Canadian or OSFI-authorised insurer.
What about Tamil-speaking parents from Sri Lanka?
Sri Lanka is not among the top five super visa source countries nationally, but it is Scarborough's third-largest immigrant birthplace. The insurance rules are the same. Processing times for Sri Lanka are not in the September 2026 country table we track, so allow for the 112-day service standard and pick a movable start date.
What does Scarborough General charge a visitor without insurance?
Scarborough Health Network does not publish a single per-day visitor rate. Across Toronto, Toronto East Health Network bills out-of-country patients $3,100 a day for a ward bed, $4,500 in intensive care and $1,025 per emergency visit, before physician fees. Expect Scarborough rates in the same range and confirm with the hospital's patient accounts office.
