Rules and prices checked October 17, 2026. Written by a licensed advisor at SuperVisaDirect, FSRA licence [FSRA-LICENCE].

Manulife CoverMe super visa insurance costs about $2,165 a year at 55, $2,874 at 65 and $5,427 at 75 with stable pre-existing conditions covered at $100,000 (rates seen October 2026). All three plans qualify for the super visa, the underwriter is The Manufacturers Life Insurance Company, and a refused applicant gets a full refund with the IRCC letter. It is annual-pay only and the most expensive mainstream option under 70.

Who is Manulife CoverMe, and who underwrites the policy?

CoverMe is Manulife’s direct-to-consumer insurance brand. The visitor policy is underwritten by The Manufacturers Life Insurance Company, with some accident benefits issued by First North American Insurance Company, a Manulife subsidiary. Both are Canadian insurers, so the certificate meets the IRCC insurer rule.

Claims are administered by Active Care Management (Active Claims Management Inc.) with a 24-hour assistance centre at 1-877-878-0142, and claim files are mailed to Global Excel Management in Windsor, Ontario. 21st Century Travel sells a separate visitor plan on the same Manulife paper through brokers.

SuperVisaDirect does not sell this plan. It is reviewed here for comparison; the plan sold on SuperVisaDirect is TuGo’s Visitors to Canada plan, underwritten by iA Financial Group, bought in three steps on the super visa page. The 2026 comparison shows both side by side.

Which Manulife plan do super visa parents need?

Enhanced is the only tier that covers pre-existing conditions. Standard excludes conditions seen in the prior 180 days, and Basic excludes all of them but has no maximum age. All three qualify for the super visa at $100,000 or more for one year.

What are the stability and questionnaire rules?

Enhanced covers a condition stable for 180 days before the effective date at every age, and a questionnaire is required from 55 to 85. Stable means no new or changed treatment, no medication change, no worsening symptoms, no hospitalisation or referral, no pending tests and no planned treatment. Manulife’s policy PDF sets the questionnaire at 40 and over, so expect it.

Rule Term
Stability period (Enhanced), all ages 180 days
Questionnaire Ages 55 to 85 (PolicyAdvisor); 40 and over (Manulife PDF)
Basic and Standard questionnaire None
Side trips Start and end in Canada, lesser of 30 days or 49% of days, not home country

A flat 180 days is stricter than Secure Travel’s 90 days to 69 or Destination’s 120 days at 60 to 69. If the parent’s medication changed four months ago, Manulife will not cover that condition. See our pre-existing conditions guide.

What does Manulife cost?

Manulife Plan B was the second-most expensive of eight carriers at 55 and 60 in October 2026, behind only Allianz, and mid-pack at 70 and 75. Deductibles cut the premium by 5 to 40 percent, and a group application earns 5 percent.

No. The full premium is collected at purchase. For Manulife-underwritten cover on instalments, 21st Century takes a two-month deposit plus a $50 fee. See monthly plans.

A super visa refusal is refunded in full on proof of the refusal letter, and any cancellation before the effective date is refunded in full. After the start date, unused days are refunded for early return or provincial coverage if no claim was reported, with a $25 minimum. A withdrawn claim costs a $300 handling fee and a denied claim $500.

What are the repatriation and coverage-area rules?

Return of body or ashes is covered up to $3,000 for preparation and transport plus $3,000 for burial, within the $7,500 death-related benefit. Bringing the parent home alive has no published cap when authorised by the assistance centre. No excluded provinces are stated.

Rule Term
Return of remains $3,000 transport plus $3,000 burial (death benefit $7,500)
Medical repatriation No published cap, assistance centre must authorise
Side trips 30 days or 49% of days, start and end in Canada
Provinces not served None stated
Assistance penalty 20% co-insurance if not called within 24 hours

What do reviews say about claims?

Manulife’s corporate Trustpilot page scores 1.2 from 594 reviews, dominated by banking and group-benefits complaints about long phone waits and unpaid claims. One travel reviewer reports a hospital claim from India unpaid nearly two years later. Source: Trustpilot.

The CoverMe brand has no separate review set. Treat the corporate score as a warning about service volume, not the visitor product specifically, and document every call to the assistance centre.

Who is Manulife best for, and what should you watch for?

Manulife fits a family that wants a full refund guarantee on refusal, a household-name certificate and the lowest cancellation charge. It is a poor fit for budget buyers under 70, monthly payers and parents whose medication changed in the last six months.

Best for Watch out for
Full refund on IRCC refusal, $25 minimum fee Second-most expensive at 55 and 60
Healthy parents over 85 (Basic, no age limit) Basic excludes all pre-existing conditions
Families using the 40% deductible discount No monthly plan
TravelAid app and Gems claims portal $500 drug cap; $300 or $500 claim-handling fees; 1.2 corporate Trustpilot

Questions people ask

Do all Manulife CoverMe visitor plans qualify for the super visa?

Yes. Basic, Standard and Enhanced all satisfy IRCC when bought at $100,000 or more for at least one year, because each is issued by The Manufacturers Life Insurance Company, a Canadian insurer. Only Enhanced covers pre-existing conditions, so a parent with a diagnosis should buy Enhanced even though Basic and Standard are cheaper.

What is the maximum age for Manulife super visa insurance?

Standard and Enhanced run to age 85. Basic has no maximum age, so a healthy parent of 86 or older can still be insured, but Basic excludes every pre-existing condition and drops dental and accidental death benefits. Enhanced requires a medical questionnaire from 55 to 85; applicants 54 and under skip it.

Does Manulife refund the premium if the super visa is refused?

Yes. A super visa refusal earns a full refund on proof of the refusal letter, and any cancellation before the effective date is refunded in full. After the start date, early return with no claims is refunded for unused days with a $25 minimum. Requests must be made within 60 days of returning home.

Does Manulife CoverMe offer monthly payments?

No. CoverMe collects the whole premium at purchase. If you need instalments on Manulife-underwritten cover, 21st Century sells a monthly plan on Manulife paper with a two-month deposit and $50 fee. IRCC accepts either full payment or instalments with a deposit paid.

Why is 21st Century cheaper than Manulife CoverMe if Manulife underwrites both?

They are different products with different benefit schedules, fees and distribution: CoverMe is Manulife's direct retail brand, while 21st Century is a broker-sold MGA plan. In October 2026 tables 21st Century Enhanced was $1,891 at 55 against CoverMe Plan B at $2,165, though at 75 CoverMe was lower at $5,427 against $5,712.
